Firstly hope this is in the right subject. Right last September i went to a tackle shop in thanet and gave a set of 3 harrison balistas to be refurbed to my spec. I still have not got my rods back yet. I have constantly been ringing up and each time i get that he has been busy etc etc and if i wanted rods could borrow his not the point wanted mine done. Went to shop 2day to find out whats going on and find out the guys left to make it worse he sold a set of reels for me that i said to put 2wards the build cost. The manager has said he will chase it up and get em back. I feel ive been blagged every time i have asked been more than patient it dont take this long to do a re build what do i do if rods have gone?

Would of thought the shops liable if he was their employee, try the citizens advise bureau/small claims court.

I have just spoke to my son, who has got a degree in Law. He says it very much depends on the circumstances of how the rod builder came in possession of the rods.

If the tackle shop handed the rods to the person to be re-built or he is/was a member of staff, then it becomes vicarious liability, and the tackle shop would be responsible for the return or replacement of the rods.

If the rod builder removed the rods from the tackle shop without their permission, then it becomes theft, and a police involvement, and court appearances and eventually compensation would be the way forward.

Hope it works out for you and you get your rods back.

I will have no probs naming the shop in the week or even the blokes name who is responsable if the manager does not deliver on his word of getting my stuff back. i agree with it being out of control but isnt if funny u kind of trust people in a shop u use regular so when they say they been busy few probs etc etc b4 u know it its been 8 months and out of control. Id say the shop has a resposability as it was there employee not just a random bloke. My rods were 4btc balistas dont make em anymore or are special build only as ive been told so what do they replace with if they dont get my gear.

I had a similar thing happen to me a few years back. I took a rod in to a shop and the manager said that he would sell it for me. When I was next in the area I called in to see if it had been sold only to find that the manager had gone missing and there was no trace of my rod.
Fortunately I had a receipt for it so the shop was obliged to pay me the price that they had agreed to sell it for.
Hopefully you got a receipt for your rods.
This sort of thing leaves a very nasty taste in the mouth, especially when it involves some one that you thought you could trust.
Good Luck, I hope you get it sorted out.

This does sound extremely unreasonable - is he saying there not on the premises? and that they have been sent away - or are they actually lost?
Either way you need to know - and then if they have lost them, he is resposible to replace them with something you would be happy with - not ideal,However- if he knows where they are -then demand that they are returned immediately -and no excuses - after that you could be looking at taking legal advise if he becomes akward
Hope you can settle the issue -and soon

When you go in next, tell the manager if he hasnt got the rods then you want the money in cash now that you paid for the rods originally and also the money from the reels that were sold.

The rods were taken in to the shop and the so called rod builder has taken them away to do the work i asked for. This guy worked in the shop day to day but also done the rod builds. The manager has said that he has rods of the shops and that he was going to see him 2day. Ive been fair more than fair i havent named the shop yet as im hoping the manager will sort it for me. Its no excuse the guy has had my rods since end september i dont have them yet refurbed and hes left the shop with no contact to me and apparently he left 3 -4 weeks ago. Its bad cos regardless of the outcome i wont go there again and i have just sold my boat and am looking to upgrade my reels and few other bits so they have lost money and a customer.

well the manager finally went over and got my rods back. Were do i start at how much of a nob and lyer the bloke is who used to work in this shop is. My rods 2 are untouched and 1 has had the reel seat and rings taken off thats it. After telling me and chris the manager that all he had left to do was the tip rings, im gobsmacked he even said if i wanted to go look at what hed done i could dont know whod have been more surprised. The shop are going to refund me the 100 quid so a lesson learned by them as to who they employ. they have been true to their word and im greatfull to them i feel happy to have rods back as i did fear the worst. He has apparently done the same to a few others and they are having to pick up the pieces which i feel sorry for them. Cathederal baits in ramsgate have been very helpfull since they became aware how bad things had become again i have no problems with the shop only the idiot that has just left.

Glad you've got your rods back. Nice to know that Cathedral Baits are a reputable company even if their employee is a complete waste of space.
If you are still looking to have your rods rebuilt, I used a rod builder in Ashford a few years ago, Can't remember what he did for me now but he was very good ,not expensive and turned the job round in a matter of days.
I think I still have a phone number for him so if you would like it let me know and I'll try to find it for you.

If you want you rods rebuilt, I recommend DKRODS, check out the thread on this forum. He did a rod for me, and the job was first class.

Every cloud has a silver lining im told. And i think this is a prime example. The guy who is doing my rods now is called mark plank and he is top bloke. He phoned me tonite to see if i wanted to pop over and check that i was ok with the whippings hed chose. Wow the new 50mm kigan butt ring was on the butt section with silver whippings and full corks with ss butt caps and new reel seats. My face lit up and hes finished them in a matt lacquer they look great. Obviously wanting to check all was ok i think he could tell by my smile. Well impressed cant wait to get em all done ready for new season.
