I was surprised they got that big in there because there wasn't a lot of fodder fish was there! I know there were a few perch and roach but not in great numbers, mind you there were a lot more eels about then!!

A few of the tench on the Pan used to show the signs of being attacked by pike and they'd regularly follow any hooked tench in no matter what the size; remember having an 8lb tench on one time and it being a race between my landing net and a hungry pike who was going to get it first. The pike kept on having a go despite being poked at with the net! Another time, saw a well known carp angler hook a 5/6lb tench and a pike take it in the margins before it reached the relative safety of the landing net.

Shame they are not bigger, but at least we all should have a bend in our rods for the pike match . |

I used to fish the Larkfield lakes for Pike back in the 80’s and 90’s. The Railway held mostly Jacks but there was at least one fish of around mid 20’s. Island lake was quite difficult fishing but managed a few up to mid doubles. Ocean used to be fairly consistent with perhaps a couple of fish each trip but never had anything big out. The problem with the lakes is that the food fish have been decimated by the “Black Death” in recent years and I doubt that there would be enough food there these days to support a significant head of fish but would love to be proven wrong. I had a couple of trips last winter but never had a take.

I am out on Thursday for a Pike Fishing day trip. Anyone got any tips as to where the Pike are showing, I was thinking either Stour Lake on The Blue Lagoon. But I am very open to suggestions. Anyone had anything from Westbere yet?
Thanks in advance.

Loads of pike to be caught on westbere, particularly in the canal section at the moment. Mostly under 10lb though.
