Mid
Kent Fisheries operates a 24-hour emergency on-call
service for life-threatening incidents which can wipe out
stocks.
When lakes are overstocked the fish are at risk of suffocation,
due to a lack of oxygen, which can result in fish deaths of major proportions.
But if the Mid Kent Fisheries team
are alerted in time they use aeration pumps to get the oxygen circulating
through the water and net the remaining fish, which can be kept in quarantine
ponds while the problem is investigated.
Mid Kent Fisheries was one of the first
angling clubs in the country to install aeration pumps, or bubblers, in
lakes to help the fish stocks and keep them well oxygenated.
